        “Wait!” Erin hissed. 

Pedro’s daring grin was irresistible. “For what? We found the tomb. Five years’ struggle, no one believed us! I’m opening it, Erin.”

“Fine. But—”

Stone groaned under the crowbar. Light struck, not the darkness expected.

Beneath, a staircase fell into a chasm of green, blue, gold. Colour and motion danced in utopia; water, leaf, and shimmer.

Death’s stench drifted. The promise below, a lure. Reality: a single, pulsing abomination, its body the city, veins the streets.

Cold slithered in still air. Boots scraped stone, drawn to hunger below.

Rancid air spoke with fetid spit. “I am released.
